Venturing Crew & Scouts BSA Troop

Venturing Crew 003 (coed):

Venturing at  St. Augustine Catholic High School is an adventure scouting program that offers many opportunities in leadership, service, fitness, citizenship, outdoor, and social activities. Additionally, our program supports the philosophy and values of our chartering organization. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (or 13 and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age.  This is a youth run youth led program.

In Venturing, young adults participate in a range of outdoor activities and also social events, like going to the movies, paintball, Christmas parties and much more. Our highlight events include sailing in San Diego and flying locally.

Works of Mercy projects, which are needed as a grade for theology every year, are also something Venturing can provide.  Projects include the construction of the Stations of the Cross, modification to the pathway to St. Francis de Sales, and the reconstruction of several classrooms. Not only does this help with the Works of Mercy required hours but also leaves a lasting legacy to the school. We continue to do service projects for our school.

Scouts BSA Troop 003 (all-female):

As of February 1, 2019, Boy Scouts have allowed girls to join troops. This gives girls the opportunity to work towards an Eagle Scout rank. Hence, the creation of a Troop 003. The focus of this troop is to get girls to their Eagle Scout rank. Troop 003 is a high school unit. However, we will consider eighth grade girls on an one on one basis.

Any new scout registration in a troop in the year 2019, who are 16 or 17 years old,  will be allowed a two-year extension to pursue their Eagle Scout rank. This applies to both boys and girls.

The outing is scouting is prevalent in this program. The troop is involved in camping, hiking, and backpacking. Our goal is to backpack the Grand Canyon and the Philmont Scout Ranch.

We work with Venturing Crew 003 and do joint activities. Although the troop may seem to be a lot of work, we also love to indulge in joint fun events and have fun too!

Lone Scout opportunities are available to male Boy Scouts needing to work towards their Eagle Scout rank. Please communicate with the Scoutmaster.

Family commitment hours are available to adults and parents who provide leadership to the venturing crew and troop. Please talk to the Crew Advisor or Troop Scoutmaster about these opportunities.
